Getting Paid to Complete Online Surveys: New Career Choice?

What could be better than getting paid to stay at home and give your opinions over various subjects? Not much, right? With the power of the internet it is now more than possible, and for many Americans who are looking for new and exciting ways to earn cash, it has become a reality. But what if you are interested in making a full-time career out of answering surveys? Many sites advertise impressive payouts per single day of survey taking, so couldn’t it be possible to quit your day job and work full-time at home? The answer may not be as simple as you think.

First of all, the biggest reason that survey taking won’t pay the rent is because the actual payouts aren’t exactly phenomenal. The experts who have researched the many paid survey sites available have found that, though there are many that pay fairly, the most you can expect is about five to six dollars an hour—and that is after you have completed the preliminary self-surveys that help the sites in assigning the right surveys to you. To give you an idea of what that kind of money looks like over a year’s period, here’s the math:

• $5 hourly = $200 weekly = $10,400 annually
• $6 hourly = $240 weekly = $12,480 annually

It’s quite easy to see that working full-time filling out surveys doesn’t exactly make you rich. Additionally, not all sites actually pay in cash—many sites pay using points systems where a defined amount of points equals money, or they pay in discount coupons for goods and services. Also, some sites are known to “award” payments using a sweepstakes system where candidates are given the chance to win prize money. Knowing how individual site pays before completing their surveys is crucial when making efforts to earn money online.

But if you can’t earn a full-time wage, why should anyone even be interested in completing online surveys? Once you readjust your expectations to consider the extra money that can be had by dedicating your spare hours to survey taking, you can see that the amount you can make over and above the salary that you already earn from your day job can be substantial. With that extra money, you can do any number of things that you’ve been considering: take more weekend trips, go shopping more often, save up for that new gadget you’ve been wanting, etc.

Though survey taking won’t make you rich, when done right, it can pad your wallet and give you even more spending abilities than you had before. Just consider the possibilities!  But also, it’s important to remember to have realistic expectations.
